The Mission Specialist Defender is VideoRay's intervention ROV: a modular, configurable vehicle with seven thrusters and six degrees of freedom, built for precise control of position and orientation, heavier payloads and demanding work in strong currents. It weighs 38 lbs, measures 71 by 40 by 24 cm and is rated to 300 m as standard or 1,000 m in its deep configuration. Forward thrust is 26.7 kg with a 52 lb bollard pull, reaching 4 knots forward, 0.8 m/s vertically and 1 knot in sway. Tether runs to 1.5 km on subsea batteries with a fibre-optic tether, or 1.2 km on topside power with a hybrid tether. Lighting is two 7,600-lumen units, and its 4.7k smart camera carries an on-board AI and machine-learning processor, with a rear-facing camera as well. It lifts 22 lbs in the gripper and retrieves over 100 lbs, and it integrates Blueprint Subsea Seatrac USBL positioning, a Nortek DVL500 Compact, Tritech Micron scanning sonar and a GPS/GNSS receiver, plus third-party thickness gauges and multiparameter sondes. Runs the Greensea IQ operating system, integrates a 2-function (open/close/rotate) manipulator as standard, and retrieves over 100 lbs. Its case record includes U.S. Navy explosive ordnance disposal work and the Costa Concordia salvage project.
