The Thermo Scientific Orbitor RS2 Microplate Mover is a compact, collaborative benchtop robot that moves microplates between instruments in high-throughput labs without taking up much bench space. A radial arm with 360-degree reach serves instruments arranged around it, even in tight or crowded layouts, and its bi-directional telescoping arm and vertical travel reach stacked instruments too. Plate transfers take under six seconds, and integrated plate storage holds up to 360 standard microplates for continuous, unattended runs across multiple devices. The gripper detects plates to reduce labware-handling errors and barcode scanning is integrated. Thermo Fisher's comparison table lists a reach of +/-410 mm, three degrees of freedom (Z, radius and rotation) and a 250 g payload, with benchtop mounting and an optional track axis. It integrates with Thermo Fisher's Momentum software for scheduling, smart error handling and fewer workflow interruptions, and is used for screening and assay automation, including with the QuantStudio real-time PCR systems. Thermo Fisher says it meets international standards for collaborative robots, so staff can work alongside it without guarding.
