The S1 is Astribot's bid to match a working adult rather than merely resemble one, and the company publishes its specification as a side-by-side with a normal adult male to make exactly that point. On the numbers that matter for manipulation it wins: an end effector that moves at 10 m/s or more against a human swing arm's 5 to 10, acceleration around 100 m/s2, and positioning repeatability of 0.1 mm where a person managed 1 to 5 mm even after training. It gives up ground on endurance - four to six hours against ten, though it supports running plugged in - and it is heavier, 80 kg against 70. Physically it is close to human scale: 170 cm tall against 173, with a 194 cm arm span that is notably wider than a person's 171 to 175. Each of its two arms has seven degrees of freedom and carries 5 kg at horizontal reach. It does not walk - the torso and arms sit on an omnidirectional wheeled base, which is what lets it hold that repeatability while moving. What Astribot argues sets it apart is the architecture rather than the joints. The company calls it Design for AI: hardware and software developed as one system so that learning and manipulation are coupled rather than bolted together, which it says is what let it break through on collecting embodied-intelligence training data. The robot is taught largely by teleoperation and imitation learning, using human tools and equipment rather than purpose-made fixtures.
