Jimu Parking Robot is an autonomous system that parks cars without pallets, comb racks or ramps. Two thin robots, about 10 cm high, drive under the car. One grips the front wheels and the other the rear wheels, with mechanical arms that adapt to different wheelbases and track widths, and the pair stay in constant communication as they lift and carry the car to a space. Autonomous driving technology handles positioning, navigation, recognition and obstacle avoidance, and Jimu uses laser sensors that it says are accurate to the millimetre to avoid scrapes. A central dispatch system assigns tasks and plans routes across all robots in a garage, and drivers can book parking, collect the car and pay by phone. Jimu says this fits 30% to 40% more cars per floor than a conventional car park, depending on layout. The fourth generation was chosen for a 14-storey robot parking building in Southeast Asia.
