TRI Small Magnetic Adsorption Pipeline Inspection Robot

This is the machine for the pipes that are too small for anything else. Where ordinary pipeline robots cannot fit, this one is about 50 x 60 x 150 mm and goes in through a hand hole as small as 80 mm — small enough to sit in a technician's palm — then raises itself inside the pipe to get the best inspection field of view. The lifting structure is the point of the design: the video module has two degrees of freedom, lifting and pitching, so after entering through a small opening the camera can be positioned rather than pointed wherever the body happens to lie. It carries two cameras, a 1080p front inspection module and a 720p rear environment monitor, with a front laser reference line for scale and gyroscope attitude monitoring so the operator knows how the robot is oriented inside the pipe. The system is a robot body, a portable cable reel cart and a tablet at the back end, and TRI positions it as a replacement for the endoscope in manifold inspection, working 30 to 100 metres from the entry point.
