The Iseki Sanae Japan PRJ8D-R is a manned-supervision robot rice transplanter that plants eight rows at a time without an operator aboard, controlled by remote. Iseki launched it in February 2022, following its robot tractors, so that one person can plant paddies that normally need a two-person crew (operator plus a helper refilling seedlings and fertiliser), and so that inexperienced operators can plant with expert-level precision. Work runs in four steps. The operator first plants three sides of the paddy by hand, and the machine records the field shape as it goes, with no empty mapping lap. It then plants the back-and-forth rows on its own, slowing and stopping near the levee at each pass, and plants the inner laps automatically, adjusting the row clutches so the inner lap comes out at eight rows. Finally the operator plants the last side by hand. The colour LCD remote reaches up to 300 m. Automatic differential lock and forced four-wheel drive keep traction in turns, and the machine uses patented NARO technology. The spec sheet lists a 1.123 L three-cylinder diesel of 18.0 kW (24.5 PS), a 3,310 mm length, 2,250-2,410 mm width, 2,600 mm height, 950-1,115 kg weight depending on version, working speeds up to 1.86 m/s and about 7-9 minutes per 10 ares. Versions add fertiliser application, including variable-rate fertilising.
