PEER ST is the standard model of GROUND's PEER series of autonomous collaborative robots (AMRs) for warehouse picking. Based on orders sent in advance, several robots drive autonomously to the storage locations at the same time; the worker approaches the stopped robot, takes the item shown on its tablet from the shelf and places it in the container on the robot, so pickers no longer push carts and can concentrate on picking hands-free. GROUND reports that its first deployment, at the apparel e-commerce fulfilment centre of Diamondhead in 2019, was Japan's first practical use of an autonomous collaborative robot in a logistics facility; it is also used by food supermarket Kasumi for online-grocery picking and restocking. PEER ST measures 436 x 460 x 1,400 mm, weighs 42.5 kg with its battery and carries up to 45 kg at up to 1.4 m/s. It needs aisles of 0.8 m one-way, 0.9 m with turning and 1.4 m for two robots to pass, handles 3-degree slopes and 3 mm steps, runs 8 hours unloaded on its lithium-ion battery and recharges in 2 hours, and connects by Wi-Fi. Like the rest of the PEER series it navigates by SLAM, fusing camera and laser data to localise itself in real time and choose an obstacle-free route without magnetic tape, guide rails or dedicated shelving, so it can be added to a running warehouse without layout changes. A tablet on the robot shows the picking instructions, the robots can be linked to a WMS (or started from a QR-coded pick list with the optional SHOT&GO reader), and GROUND offers a simulator to size the fleet before a trial.
