The Discovery Collector is Lely's manure robot for closed and semi-closed barn floors, and it differs from the usual approach in one important way: it vacuums manure into an onboard tank instead of scraping it along the floor. Nothing is pushed ahead of the machine, so manure does not build up in front of it or get carried into cubicles — which means cleaner hooves, tails and udders, and less scope for infection. It needs no cables or gutters, so the barn floor stays uninterrupted and the cows have a safer surface to walk on. Built-in sensors let it navigate tight spaces, small corners, cross alleys, the gaps under sorting gates and the area in front of the milking robot. It sprays water from the front to loosen manure and improve collection, and from the rear to wet the floor for grip. Routes and cleaning frequency are set to suit the farm's or the herd's rhythm and can be adjusted from a phone. It returns to a wireless charging pad. Vacuuming also keeps manure away from most rotating parts, which reduces wear.
