AeroVironment Unveils Next-Gen eVTOL Drone for U.S. Army AeroVironment introduced the P550, a next-gen electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) drone, designed for the U.S. Army’s long-range reconnaissance missions. The P550 can carry a 15-pound payload and stay airborne for up to 5 hours, offering extended endurance for complex missions. Unlike predecessors like the Raven and Puma, which struggle in urban or forested areas, the P550 can handle diverse terrains, making it versatile for different mission types. Beyond reconnaissance, the P550 is a “hunter-killer” drone, equipped to carry lethal payloads and perform electronic warfare. AeroVironment designed the P550 with an open, modular system to allow seamless tech integration, ensuring adaptability for evolving battlefield requirements.
