Teledyne Gavia AUV

The Gavia AUV is a self-contained, low-logistics, modular autonomous underwater vehicle that delivers survey-grade data while operating from vessels of opportunity or from the shore. Its modules can be swapped between dives, so a small team can reconfigure it in the field for a different mission, and it is compact enough to ship overnight. The 200 mm diameter vehicle is 2.2 to 4.5 m long and weighs 59 to 130 kg depending on configuration, and is rated to 500 or 1,000 m. Each lithium-ion battery module holds 1.65 kWh, giving typically 7 hours at 3 knots; up to three modules can be fitted, or batteries field-swapped for continuous operations, and top speed is over 5.5 knots. Navigation uses a DGPS-ready receiver and a DVL-aided inertial navigation system from Exail with a Teledyne RDI Doppler velocity log and sound velocity meter, with optional USBL aiding; it communicates over Wi-Fi, Iridium satellite and an acoustic modem. Sensor modules include synthetic aperture sonar, side-scan, multibeam (Teledyne RESON SeaBat T20), sub-bottom profiler, gap-fill, camera and environmental sensors, plus a science bay for custom payloads. Commercial: pre/post construction support and pipeline inspection. Defence: mine countermeasures, rapid environmental assessment, search and recovery, sonar training.
