SOVI-Teach is a wheeled semi-humanoid teaching assistant from Mensch Robotics for schools and colleges. It is built to support teachers rather than replace them, handling question-and-answer sessions, speaking practice and classroom activities so that teachers can spend more time on individual students. The robot answers questions across subjects by voice in several languages, activated by a wake word, and can draw on live web search or a built-in knowledge base. Face recognition lets it identify students and remember them across sessions, and adaptive modes pitch explanations to a student's grade and level. It can play relevant educational videos on its chest touchscreen and tracks progress through a secure multi-user cloud back end. Its three learning modes cover open Q&A, role-play and guided speech practice, and group activities such as debates. SOVI stands about 5 ft (1.5 m) tall and weighs 50 kg. It has a rotating head with expressive LED eyes, arms with three degrees of freedom each (shoulder, elbow and palm), an integrated camera, microphone and speakers, and a fibre-and-metal frame. It moves on a mobile base, either autonomously with obstacle avoidance or under manual control from an Android app over Bluetooth. Mensch shows deployments at St. Thomas English School (Kalyan, Mumbai), Alif Islamic School (Malappuram, Kerala) and St. Joseph College of Engineering (Chennai).
