indi is Sphero's screen-free learning robot for children from about four years old (Pre-K to grade 2), a small car that is programmed by colour. Kids lay out rubber colour tiles, each one a coded instruction, and indi's on-board colour sensor reads them as it drives, turning a maze, story or classroom routine into a sequence of moves, lights and sounds; children learn sequencing, directionality, loops, pattern recognition and cause and effect without a device. When they are ready, the Sphero Edu Jr app lets them reprogram how indi reacts to each colour with simple drag-and-drop blocks. The robot measures 3 x 2.75 x 1.5 in (76 x 70 x 38 mm), lasts a full 7-hour school day in normal classroom use or about 2 hours with the motor running continuously, and recharges in about 2 hours. It shipped to schools in September 2021 and is sold as a Student Kit with 20 colour tiles and challenge cards or in 8- and 16-robot Class Packs.
