Simphoni is the surgical robot system from Borns Medical Robotics, a company focused on the research, development, manufacture and clinical application of minimally invasive surgical robots and supporting artificial-intelligence technologies. Borns describes Simphoni as an open-design platform: the HD 3D vision system is interchangeable, the haptics are derived from work at the Stanford AI Lab, and accessory control covers the energy instrument and endoscope. Setup and configuration, along with user data management, are handled from a touch screen. The system is presented as modular across everyday surgery and higher-end procedures through additive components, and as scalable via a surgical cart and instrument imaging. Borns quotes 1 mm accuracy with short latency, and emphasises instant set-up so the system fits different operating theatres, plus a uniform training platform with a haptic program.
