Mesmer is Engineered Arts' realistic humanoid: a full-size social robot built to look like a specific person or character rather than like a machine. Each one goes through a four-step character creation process that customises every detail, down to hand-punching individual hairs and synchronising character-specific movement sequences and sounds, and the company has built Mesmer likenesses of real people as well as original characters. Underneath, it shares its capabilities with Ameca. It has 61 actuated degrees of freedom - 27 in the head and face, 34 in the upper body - across face, head, neck, arms, hands and torso, stands 1,870 mm tall and weighs 62 kg. Two 8 MP eye-mounted cameras with UHD video capture and binaural spatial-audio microphones support natural interaction, and proximity sensors, position encoders, LiDAR safety sensors and patented mechanical designs make up the safety system. An embedded robot PC runs a cloud-based robotOS, with Ethernet, twin Thunderbolt and twin USB ports in the lower body. Mesmer is driven by Tritium, Engineered Arts' browser-based platform. A library of more than 70 facial expressions, body poses and movements ships with it and can be extended with the no-code Animator and Poses tools, which reach every one of the 61 degrees of freedom. Roles defines a character's identity, knowledge and personality in plain text, and conversation runs in more than 70 languages with authentic accents, parallel-conversation tracking and an ElevenLabs connection. Three operating modes - Interaction, Conference and Telepresence - switch its behaviour to suit the setting.
