The Elios 3 is Flyability's collision-tolerant drone for inspecting and mapping confined, GPS-denied spaces such as boilers, tanks, mines, sewers and cargo holds. A patented carbon protective cage lets it bump into walls and keep flying, and it stabilises itself with lidar-based SLAM and visual-inertial cameras, so inspectors can fly it remotely into places that are unsafe for people. It carries a built-in visual inspection payload with 4K and thermal cameras and dust-proof oblique lighting, plus a lidar payload that builds SLAM point clouds with ±1.8 cm precision out to 45 m. Plug-in payloads add survey-grade scanning, ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurement, radiation (RAD) mapping and NevadaNano flammable-gas detection, and a tether power unit, high-capacity battery and range extender stretch missions. The drone measures 48 x 38 cm, weighs 1.96 kg (2.41 kg with lidar) and flies up to 11.5 minutes on its 99.2 Wh smart battery (17 minutes with the high-capacity battery). It launched in 2022.
