BESCHREIBUNG

The Human Support Robot is Toyota's answer to a demographic problem it states plainly: by 2060 nearly 40 per cent of Japan's population will be 65 or over. HSR is a compact mobile manipulator meant to help elderly and disabled people live independently — it picks things up off the floor, fetches objects from shelves, and keeps an eye on the household. The body is a cylinder 430 mm across that telescopes between 1,005 and 1,350 mm tall, weighing about 37 kg, with a folding arm roughly 600 mm long whose shoulder travels from 340 mm to 1,030 mm. It handles objects up to 1.2 kg and 130 mm wide, moves at up to 0.8 km/h, and copes with 5 mm thresholds and 5-degree slopes — deliberately modest numbers for a machine working around frail people in a cluttered home. It can also be operated remotely, relaying a family member's face and voice in real time, so the help arrives with a person attached rather than as an anonymous machine. First announced in 2012 and revised repeatedly on feedback from patients and care workers, HSR is not sold. In 2015 Toyota founded the HSR Developers' Community, lending units to universities, research institutes and businesses that share their software and findings back.
