BESCHREIBUNG

ArmeoPower is Hocoma's powered arm exoskeleton, built for the earliest stages of arm and hand recovery in patients with severe to moderate impairment - the group who cannot generate enough movement to practise conventionally, and for whom therapy usually stalls. The exoskeleton carries the weight of the arm across an extensive three-dimensional workspace, which is what makes movement possible at all for a weak limb. On top of that it works assist-as-needed: the robot recognises when a patient cannot complete a movement and supplies support in proportion to what they can manage themselves, so the patient contributes as much effort as they are capable of instead of being moved passively. Patients practise 1D, 2D and 3D movements from an extensive exercise library covering the core movement patterns used in daily activities, presented as game-like virtual reality and augmented performance exercises to keep the training active rather than endured. An optional hand module extends the same assist-as-needed principle to opening and closing the hand, which brings severely impaired patients into grasp training. For the clinic the arguments are throughput and evidence: very high repetition counts despite severe impairment, one therapist able to supervise several patients at once, and standardised assessment tools that document progress objectively rather than by impression.
