SAUSR Alpha is a remotely operated underwater robot from Gridbots that removes settled sludge from the floor of water tanks and small reservoirs while they stay full, so the tank does not have to be drained or taken out of service. The wheeled robot is lowered into the tank and driven by a technician from an operator control unit outside, watching two UHD cameras, one facing forward and one under the belly. Twin counter-rotating brushes scrape mud, ash, dirt and hard deposits off the bottom, and a high-pressure onboard pump sends the slurry out through an exit hose to reusable filters; the solids are captured and the filtered water is returned to the tank, so no water is wasted. The robot is built from SS-316 stainless steel, weighs 40 kg, carries up to 50 kg and moves at up to 50 mm/s with 0.1 mm encoder resolution. It is rated for 100 m depth and IP69, works from 5 to 65 C, and is tethered by a cable with steel rope of up to 100 m. Power ranges from 1 kW single-phase to 6 kW three-phase AC. Onboard sensors cover water quality, depth, orientation (IMU) and sound.
