Interactive Demonstrator - Teleoperation with ROS 2 and MOTOMAN NEXT

In this video, we show you the interactive ROS 2 - MOTOMAN NEXT demonstrator. Here, users can control the robot and gripper via a gaming joystick in order to select a small gift. The demo shows how ROS 2 code modules can be integrated into the MOTOMAN NEXT concept. In this case, the code is for a game controller that is used to remotely control the MOTOMAN NEXT NEX10 robot. Teleoperation is an important topic in robotics, and solutions for it are commonplace in the ROS 2 community. Yaskawa has been a strong supporter of the ROS 2 (Robotic Operating System) community for many years through its MOTOMAN robots. ROS 2 code modules also run in a special way on our new Motoman NEXT platform — no external PC required. Using the Linux-based ACU (Autonomous Control Unit) of the MOTOMAN NEXT robot controller, not only can you build ROS 2 pilot applications, but you can also turn them into commercially successful solutions, supported by the worldwide Yaskawa organisation. With the Linux-based ACU (NVIDIA Orin NX inside) of the Motoman NEXT robot controller, ROS 2 software developers have the freedom to deploy Docker containers on the robot controller as an edge device. The MOTOMAN NEXT services (Path Planning, Robot Control, Machine Vision and Force Control) can be easily and directly integrated into your ROS 2 code via gRPC (Remote Procedure Calls), resulting in shorter development times and more compact code. ROS 2 software developers no longer have to rely on 3rd party software modules (e.g. MoveIt), but can rely on Yaskawa's approved robot-specific services and interfaces, which are perfectly matched to the robot hardware (high position accuracy achieved by new High Intertia motor/gearbox units and absolute accuracy calibration) and do exactly what they are supposed to do: behave exactly the same in the real world as in the virtual world (zeroGap). To develop (ROS 2) applications with MOTOMAN NEXT, you don't need a physical robot system. Yaskawa provides a fully docu
