ROV Beluga is a tethered underwater inspection vehicle from Planys Technologies built for open water: river and highway bridge foundations, port quay walls and jetties, and other submerged structures. It is used mainly through Planys' own inspection services, which replace diver surveys for port, bridge, power and oil and gas asset owners. The vehicle is rated to 120 m, extendable to 300 m, and carries modular payloads of up to 10 kg. Dual HD cameras with adjustable lighting cope with turbid and murky water, and sonar imaging gives a picture where cameras cannot see. Beluga can also carry contact and non-contact ultrasonic tools for steel and NDT tools for concrete, so wall thickness and material condition can be measured during the same dive. Video streams to the surface in real time, and Planys converts the inspection data into digital reports with geo-tagged defect markers. The company reports 10,000 operational hours across its ROV fleet.
